Thoughts from Kalu Rinpoche

The meaning of enlightenment is: You yourself are the universe!

The meaning of enlightenment is: You yourself are the universe!

If you look in this way, you can see all the points
of your mind and of your life as you would see the stars.
Wherever you look you can see the stars, whenever you look
you can see the point.. the points of happiness,
the points of suffering, and according to that you can see
what can benefit others and be a good person.

Father vs Grandfather ~ May 18, 2011
Father vs Grandfather

Dharma for us is like our grandfather‘s advice, not our father‘s advice. Our father‘s advice is easy to understand and easy to forget,
but our grandfather‘s advice is difficult
to understand but once we understand it is difficult to forget.

Our father only shows the result,
whereas our grandfather has a lot of experience, he tells us to be careful of the result of the result
and to follow the path of enlightenment.

The meaning of dharma is to find the result of the result ... then go beyond the result.

A Monk In Life ~ May 19, 2011
A Monk In Life

As a monk in life (a monk at heart) I can share
something special with everyone,
it depends what they can understand.

If they can understand, I can share dharma.

If they can‘t, as a human I can share life.

Games we play ~ May 16, 2011
Games we play

We say kids play games and believe in their games, but often they know they are just making believe.

We adults do not recognize the games we play. History with kings and empires, and traditions, as well as our personal career, dreams of success, all these are just games. But we adults believe in our make-believe world. It becomes so fixed ... we become addicted to it.

The teaching of the Buddha helps us go beyond this belief in the games of this life. The meaning of Dharma is to go beyond the games of this life and recognize the true meaning and value of our nature.

Meaning of Happiness ~ May 17, 2011
Meaning of Happiness

Everyone wants to be happy. The essence of the path is to be happy.

Running after emptiness will not lead you to happiness. If you understand the meaning of happiness, then you will understand the meaning of emptiness and will not fall back into suffering.

Emptiness is our Buddha Nature. Key point is not to fall back into suffering.

That‘s why we need a teacher.

Love and Respect ~ May 14, 2011
Love and Respect

Love and respect and trust:
love without attachment;
respect without distance;
full and open trust.

This is the basis of practice, this is the meaning of devotion!

Since Everything Is Possible ~ May 12, 2011
Since Everything Is Possible

What make me happy is to know that everything is possible ... good or bad,
it is all possible, it all depends on us.

Since it depends on ourselves,
the most important thing to do is to find a good teacher !

Backlash of creation ~ May 10, 2011
Backlash of creation
We create the system of the material world..
And then we suffer the effects of our own creation!
Distance ~ May 8, 2011
Distance

I am tired of the distance between teacher and disciple.
Buddha told us to share dharma according to people‘s wisdom, understanding, situation, mentality etc...
to do that we need to share dharma as family, without distance, being very close and very personal.
Looking so different from others creates a distance that is difficult to cross just with words...

Crazy Happening ~ May 6, 2011
Crazy Happening

When we practice we always want to make something happening.
In fact, the true meaning of practice is resting in the “not happening”, but still practicing with focus.
Let the mind be itself.

Promised Land ~ May 5, 2011
Promised Land

The PromiseMay 5, 2011d land is in ourself,
it is to understand ourself,
and find true happiness there ...
our buddha nature.

We always live in entertainment,
when the entertainment stops we are not happy.

Too often we look for impermanent happiness. Recognizing that the true meaning of happiness
is not attached to material life
is an important step toward enlightenment.

Being Happy ~ May 4, 2011
Being Happy

Being Happy is not the problem.
Trying to be happy is the problem.

Main points... ~ May 2, 2011
Main points

Many times we get so complicated with our intellect
that we make Dharma very complicated. Actually the main points of Dharma practice are very simple:

- Accumulate merit

- Relax our mind

- Recognize the nature of our mind once it is relaxed and let it be, just as it is.
